Well now we're screwed.

Today marks an important day. After my dad re-built our bathroom about 4 years ago, we've been intending to install a new bathroom fan & tear out the plastic tub surround to install tile. Why didn't we just do that originally? Who knows. We have a mold problem and it can no longer be ignored.

So this morning I took a ceremonial last shower, and ripped out the tub surround. We intended to get an early start on this project. We need to replace the greenboard with cement board. We need to climb into the attic & remove the old fan, possibly cut a hole in the side of the house for the vent. We have tiled a floor before, but the thought of vertical tiles and all the moisture sealing that must go on is intimidating. So far I can't get the tub spout off...much less remove green board or install cement board & seal the gap.

This is big stuff for us.

Status check: at work I'd say "this project status is RED." We're behind schedule, we don't have a good handle on scope. We are under budget...but we have not taken the first, second, or inevitable third trip to home depot yet. It is 10 am. Luke is nowhere to be found, Jo is hiding in her crib pretending to nap, and I am googling things like "how to install a tub surround" and "how to install a bathroom fan." God love google.

I am realizing that we need foil duct tape and possibly a hole saw. That sounds expensive.

Well, luke just pulled up. We've both worked out at least, and I'm on my second cup of coffee. This is all we have going for us.

The only shred of optimism I cling to is this: Mom & Dad are on the way. They like to come laugh at us when we get out our tape measures and screw drivers and then sit like little lost children on the curb lamenting the dysfunction of our home with no hope of restoring it on our own. They call this a "consultation."

In the time I've been typing we've made some progress: we're taking a preemptive lunch break. Luke is making a sandwich. I guess you can call this progress because it means in 2 hours when we would have otherwise had to kill our momentum to eat, now we won't. We'll be able to power through.

End of day goal: procure all supplies, remove tub spout & old surround, remove green board and install cement board.
